A recent small study found that cannabidiol could reduce symptoms of social anxiety in people with social anxiety disorder (SAD). Brain scans of participants revealed changes in blood flow to the regions of the brain linked to feelings of anxiety.

In this study, cannabidiol not only made participants feel better but also changed the way their brains responded to anxiety.

A 2011 study also found that cannabidiol could reduce social anxiety. For that study, researchers looked specifically at cannabidiol to treat anxiety associated with public speaking.

Research published in 2014 found that CBD oil had anti-anxiety and antidepressant effects in an animal model.

A 2015 analysis of previous studies concluded that CBD oil is a promising treatment for numerous forms of anxiety, including social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

The report cautioned, however, that data on long-term use of CBD oil is limited. While research strongly points to the role of cannabidiol in treating short-term anxiety, little is known about its long-term effects, or how it can be used as a prolonged treatment.

A 2016 case study explored whether cannabidiol could reduce symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and anxiety-provoked sleep disorder in a child with a history of trauma. Researchers found that cannabidiol reduced the child’s anxiety and helped her sleep

For decades scientists thought that CBD attached to receptors in the brain.

Now scientists point to research showing that CB1 receptors in the brain dealing with coordination, pain, emotions, appetite and more are “encouraged” by CBD to create more of the body’s own cannabinoids

The following study published in Pubmed.gov looks at 30 years of investigation: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22716160

Online posts have claimed to reveal various “cures” for the new coronavirus. Some are benign, like eating boiled garlic, while others are potentially dangerous, like drinking chlorine dioxide, an industrial bleach. Neither will cure the virus.

Full Story

Treatments billed as miracle cures have cropped up across the internet since the new coronavirus, known as 2019 novel coronavirus or 2019-nCoV, began spreading in Wuhan, China, at the end of December.

One rumor claims that boiled garlic can cure the virus. Another says that loading up on vitamin C will do the trick. Yet another would have people, essentially, drink bleach.

None of these “cures” will treat the virus.

We’re addressing each of these widely circulated claims in separate articles, starting with the most dangerous one — the claim that drinking chlorine dioxide will cure the virus.

Chlorine dioxide kits are sold online under various names — Miracle Mineral Solution, Miracle Mineral Supplement, Master Mineral Solution — but they are most often referred to as MMS.

But MMS hucksters sell the chemical solution as a cure-all for cancer, AIDS, autism and, now, the novel coronavirus.

These kits typically include a bottle of sodium chlorite and a bottle of an “activator” such as citric acid. When the two chemicals are mixed together, they make chlorine dioxide, a common industrial bleach used in the production of paper products, according to the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.

None of that is true. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and similar agencies in the U.K., Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and Australia, have warned against the use of MMS.

Hemp and CBD would get new attention by federal agencies under a 2021 budget plan.

The budget proposal asks for an additional $5 million next fiscal year for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to regulate cannabis and its derivatives, including CBD.

The bugdet also asked for more money to oversee hemp farmers.

The budget requests come shortly after legislation was introduced in the U.S. Congress to require federal food and agriculture regulators to treat hemp-derived CBD as a dietary supplement.

That proposal came in response to the increasing popularity of the product and the FDA’s year-long delay in developing regulations.

The FDA last May started reviewing federal regulations for hemp-derived CBD after the 2018 Farm Bill federally legalized hemp and its derivatives. The review has yet to go public.

The $5 million boost in the proposed budget would help advance the FDA’s regulations for products containing CBD while allowing the agency to enforce the law against making unsubstantiated medical claims about their products, the FDA said in a statement.

“FDA is seeing a significant increase in activity relating to the marketing of unlawful cannabis-derived products, especially those containing cannabidiol, since the Farm Bill passed,” the agency noted.

The $5 million would be divided across different FDA departments, including:

  • The Office of Regulatory Affairs ($2 million).
  • The Center for Veterinary Medicine ($500,000).
  • The Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition ($2 million).
  • FDA headquarters ($500,000).

With the boom in CBD I am sure you have asked yourself, is this safe to put in your body?

Not only is CBD becoming more popular in medicine, it is also showing up on menu items in bars and restaurants. It is even sold in pet products. In the US, CBD is legal in all 50 states with different degrees of restriction, according to the Drug Enforcement Agency. Forbes predicts that the CBD industry is worth billions. More and more people are using it to treat a wide array of health conditions. But is CBD a safe and effective medical treatment?

It has been know to treat many conditions such as…

  • Chronic Pain
  • Epilepsy
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Huntington’s disease
  • sleep disorders
  • glaucoma

So as you see it has been used to treat some serious conditions that before CBD didn’t have any real way to offer the patient relief. Now just because it does offer help for most doesn’t mean that it can’t be harmful to others but up until now there have been no known cases of any serious harmful effects.

Despite a lack of research, it is clear that many individuals are seeking treatment for a variety of conditions with CBD, as this industry continues to boom we will see much more evidence and breakthroughs on this wonderful herb.
